Choroideremia Patient Survey
Choroideremia (CHM) impairs the vision of about 1 in 50 000 males who begin to experience difficulty seeing at night during their teens. Peripheral vision loss becomes prominent and often leads to legal blindness by the age of 40. It is rare for female carriers of CHM to be severely affected. Currently there is no treatment for CHM.
A survey of CHM patient health beyond the realms of retinopathy has not been, to our knowledge, reported to date. Our research aims to broaden the understanding of ocular and general health of CHM patients. Furthermore, this study may lead to new research directions including the development of targeted therapies.
By participating in this survey you will help guide future CHM research. Please be assured that your answers will be anonymous and will only be used for the purposes described above. Your participation is not mandatory, and will not affect the quality of health care you receive. Your consent to participate in this survey is implied by you submitting this survey. The survey should take 10-15 minutes. Should you wish to contact us directly we can be reached at: 780-735-5932 or via e-mail stacey.stone@albertahealthservices.ca. Thank you for your time.
